New Ambassador of the United Kingdom presents Credentials
His Excellency, Mr. Stewart Eldon, CMG OBE, presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today. The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Christine Eldon, his daughter Ms. Laura Eldon, Mr. John Rankin, Deputy Head of Mission and Col. Paul Cummings, Defence Attaché at the British Embassy.
The Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tom Kitt T.D.,was present at the ceremony.
Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary General to the President;Mr. Brendan Scannell, Second Secretary General, Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Joseph Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant S. Walsh.
The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by SSU, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh, Co. Kildare, under the command of Lieutenant D. Martin.
The Band of the Defence Forces School of Music was conducted by Commandant M. Armstrong.
