Who can use Passport Online?

Across the world, renew online

Irish citizens anywhere in the world can use Passport Online to:

  • renew their passport book
  • renew their passport card
  • apply for their first passport card

This fast, secure and convenient service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The application takes five to ten working days to process plus postage.

Apply online

Irish citizens, both adults and children, can apply for first time passports and renewals online if they are resident in:

You must live in
  • Ireland
  • Northern Ireland
  • Great Britain
  • Europe
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • United States

If you live outside of the countries which offer all passport services online, see our how to apply for a passport guide.

First time adult applicants will get a list of documents that you will send to the Passport Service.

Parents applying for your child's passport need to submit a form to verify your child's identity and the consent of all guardians. This form will be available at the end of the online application. In some instances you may have to submit additonal documents for your child. If the child’s passport is valid for more than 6 months, you will have to send the passport to the Passport Service for cancellation.
