2018 Annual Report on Support for the Irish Abroad

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has published its second ‘Annual Report on Support for the Irish Abroad.’

This report details the range and depth of Government support for Irish communities and organisations around the world. In 2018 the Government allocated €12 million to projects supporting Irish communities and engaging our wider diaspora. Grants have been given to a wide variety of projects, ranging from welfare supports serving older communities in Britain and the US, to GAA clubs in the Gulf and business networks in Australia.

The report sets out the figures for the Government’s Emigrant Support Programme (ESP). Grants range from small amounts for voluntary groups, to major allocations awarded to organisations operating on a large scale. In 2018, the ESP funded 417 projects from 263 organisations worldwide.
