Statement by Minister Simon Coveney on the explosion in Beirut

Statement by Minister Simon Coveney, T.D. on the explosion in Beirut

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the people of Lebanon after the horrific explosions that occurred in Beirut on 4 August.

Ireland’s sympathies are with the victims, those who have lost family and friends, and those who have suffered damage to their homes and businesses. I wish those who have been injured a speedy recovery.

This has occurred during an already difficult period for Lebanon, which has been facing severe challenges. My Department is in contact with our partners on the ground to see how we can assist with their response.

Ireland and Lebanon have a special relationship that goes back decades and I would like to reaffirm Ireland’s solidarity with Lebanon at this difficult time.
