Min McEntee visits the European Parliament for November plenary session

The Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee T.D., will visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week on 27 and 28 November.

The visit will be used by Minister McEntee to reinforce key messages on Brexit, to engage with the Parliament on the negotiations for the next EU Budget, and to discuss the Future of Europe. During this week’s plenary session, MEPs will vote to approve the new European Commission, led by President-elect Ursula von der Leyen.

Before leaving Dublin, Minister McEntee said:

My visit highlights the importance of continual engagement with the European Parliament. I look forward to meeting MEPs, and to continuing Ireland’s engagement with the European Parliament in this new institutional cycle. It will be an important visit for me to reinforce Ireland’s appreciation for the unwavering support that the EU has shown to Ireland on Brexit and discuss the next EU Budget with MEPs from across the political spectrum.  I am also interested in hearing MEPs views about how we can continue to engage our citizens on the Future of Europe.

During her visit to Strasbourg, Minister McEntee will meet with Irish MEPs, the Finnish Minister for European Affairs, Tytti Tuppurainen, Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, and a member of the European Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, Danuta Hübner MEP. She will also meet with senior parliamentarians including Nathalie Loiseau MEP, Iratxe García Pérez MEP, (Chair of S&D Group) Philippe Lamberts MEP (Chair of Green Group), and Budget Committee Chair, Johan Van Overtveldt MEP. On Wednesday evening, Minister McEntee will also meet the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.
