Government’s Community Call – Shine Your Light

A lighted candle in the window has long been a sign of welcome and of solidarity in Ireland. This Saturday, 11 April, as part of the Government’s Covid-19 Community Call, and in recognition of the unprecedented times in which we are living, lighted candles, other lights, and symbolic equivalents, will be placed in windows across Ireland as part of the national #ShineYourLight campaign.

This national initiative will see the Áras and Government Buildings light up, along with a host of national and local public buildings across the country. Irish embassies and missions around the world will also participate in this initiative to remember all of those who have lost their lives to Covid-19 and their loved ones, and to remember and thank our key frontline staff for their ongoing crucial work throughout the crisis.

At 9pm on Saturday, RTÉ will broadcast #ShineYourLight, a short live special featuring music performances and spoken word from a number of artists. RTÉ.ie will also shine a light on this special occasion with a homepage takeover and live gallery of images from around the country and from Irish embassies and missions around the world.
