Statement by Tánaiste Simon Coveney T.D. on the terrorist attack in Bogotá

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney T.D., has condemned the car-bomb attack that took place on 17 January in Bogotá, killing at least 21 people and injuring dozens more.

The Tánaiste stated:

“I wish to extend sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured in yesterday’s explosion in Bogotá. The victims of this despicable attack are foremost in our thoughts at this tragic time.

I unreservedly condemn this attack, which is made all the more deplorable by the fact that the majority of the victims were police offers, either in training or serving in the line of duty.

Ireland is a strong supporter of the Colombian peace process, and we will continue to stand behind the Colombian people, and the Government of Colombia, as they strive to achieve lasting peace in their country.”
