Message from Consul General John Lynam

John Lynam took up duty as Ireland's first Consul-General in Frankfurt in August 2019.

Dear friends of Ireland,

Welcome to the website of the new Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt.

The Consulate General has been established as part of the Government’s Global Ireland strategy and its opening brings the number of missions opened under the expansion programme to 10 and the size of the diplomatic and consular network to 90. Its main objectives are to promote Ireland's interests, values and relationships in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland and to contribute towards the implementation of the joint plan of action for enhanced bilateral and EU Cooperation with Germany.

Irish citizens resident in the region are encouraged to register with us through this portal on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Ireland has a dynamic relationship with Germany across the business, education and cultural areas. Over 800,000 Germans visit Ireland annually. The Consulate works closely with our state agencies (IDA, Tourism Ireland, Bord Bia and Enterprise Ireland), with business and higher education institutes in promoting and building on these links.

Newly arrived Irish residents will receive a warm welcome from the Consulate and clubs and associations in Frankfurt and the wider region, including the GAA, the Irish Business Network and the Irish cultural societies. Please see our New to Germany page for further details.

This website provides information on the services provided by the Consulate, and the Embassy in Berlin, such as applying for Irish passports and visas. It also gives information on the deepening links between Ireland and Germany more broadly, across political, economic and cultural spheres. I hope that you will find it useful and informative.
