Competition: Design the Consulate's Christmas Holiday Card!

Competition: Design the Consulate's Christmas Holiday Card!

The Irish Consulate in Los Angeles was officially opened on 26 September 2019. However Ireland has been represented in California since 1933, and our relationships in this part of the United States are deep and well established.  The Consulate’s goal is to build on the links between Ireland and Los Angeles at every level and we would love your help in celebrating our connectedness. That is why we are asking the students of Los Angeles aged 12-18 to help us to create our Christmas/Holiday card.

Christmas/Holiday cards have been shared in Ireland and across the world for over a 100 years and each year the Consulate General of Ireland in Los Angeles send Christmas/Holiday cards to friends and colleagues across the world. Holiday cards are especially important to people who may be living away from home, to let the significant people in our lives know that we are thinking of them.

Thinking of the environment, we will be sending mostly e-cards instead of paper. What we need is beautiful artwork that captures the significance of this time of year, with this year’s theme of ‘Connected’. Email us a photo of your painting or drawing and we will choose one to use in the Holiday/Christmas e-card we send.

We will present the artist with a framed copy of their winning design.

How to enter

1)      Create a picture that encapsulates the theme “connected” and Christmas. Entrants can use any artistic medium or combination of mediums (e.g. paint, coloured pencils, felt-tip pens, crayons) with the exception of glitter due to its negative effect on the environment.

2)      Take a photo/scan of the completed artwork.

  • This photo/scan should be saved in the form of a JPEG or PNG.
  • Dimensions: Landscape or widescreen ratio (16:9) will work best but we can also accept square images. Please do not send portrait orientation.
  •  Images should be approximately 300 dpi (dot per inch). You can check the quality of an image by right click > properties > details.

3)      Send entries by email to EventsLosAngeles@dfa.ie no later than 5pm on Wednesday, 8th December. Entries must come from the email account of the entrant’s parent or guardian, or school.  Please include the details of your parent/guardian/teacher, including their telephone number and full postal address so that we can contact winning entrants.
