1916 "The Rising" Film and Lecture Series Vienna

As part of the Embassy's programme of events to commemorate the 1916 Rising, the Embassy will collaborate with the university of Vienna's Irish Studies Programme to present a 1916 lecture series including a screening of the new film, "The Rising".

The lecture series will begin on 15th of April with a lecture by Prof. Éamonn Ó Ciardha on "The Life and Legacy of Pádraig Mac Piarais, Revivalist, Revolutionary and 1916 Marytr". The full list of lectures is available here. All lectures are open to the public. We hope to see as many people there as possible.

As a centrepiece to this series, on the 21st of April the Embassy is delighted to announce a screening of the film "The Rising". Narrated by Liam Neeson, this landmark documentary tells the dramatic story of the events that took place in Dublin during Easter Week 1916. The documentary features a combination of rarely seen archival footage, new segments filmed on location worldwide and interviews with leading international experts.

Ambassador Mary Whelan will host a reception at 19:15 before the film which will begin at 20:00. The event will take place at Unterrichtsraum Anglistik, UniCampus AAKH, Hof 8.3 Theatre C2.
