Meeting with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra

3 December 2015

Ambassador Colm Ó Floinn and Deputy Head of Mission Caoimh Kett met with the General Manager of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO), Gita Kadambi, and HPO Orchestra Manager, Jere Siukola, in advance of the HPO’s concert at the National Concert Hall (NCH) in Dublin on 12 December.

OECD Public Governance Ministerial

27 to 28 October 2015

The Embassy of Ireland was delighted to welcome Minister of State at the Departments of Agriculture, Food and Marine and Transport, Tourism and Sport with Special Responsibility for Rural Economic Development and Rural Transport, Ann Phelan TD, to Helsinki where she led the delegation of Ireland to the OECD Public Governance Ministerial and Youth Dialogue for Inclusive Growth on 27 and 28 October.

Launch of Yeats Translation 'Torni ja kierreportaat'

In 2015, Ireland celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize-winning poet, William Butler Yeats. On 15 October, Ambassador Colm Ó Floinn hosted a reception at his residence to mark the launch of the new Finnish translation of Yeats’s poetry 'Torni ja kierreportaat' by Jyrki Vainonen, published by Basam Books. 

Demonstrating Minds: Disagreements in Contemporary Art

8 October 2015

Ambassador Ó Floinn met with artist Tom Molloy at the pre-opening event of the international group exhibition Demonstrating Minds: Disagreements in Contemporary Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, part of the Finnish National Gallery, on 8 October. The exhibition of Tom Molloy’s work at the exhibition was supported by Culture Ireland.

Helsinki International Film Festival

17 to 27 September 2015

Three Irish films were screened at the Love and Anarchy Helsinki International Film Festival 2015: Song of the Sea, You’re Ugly Too and Kiss Me Quick, I’m Irish! The Embassy of Ireland was delighted to support the Director of You’re Ugly Too, Mark Noonan, to attend the festival and give a Q&A after the screenings of his film. 

Art Fair Suomi

Ambassador Ó Floinn attended the opening of the Art Fair Suomi ’15 international contemporary art event on 17 September.

Gaming the System

17 September 2015

The Embassy of Ireland attended the launch event for the exhibition Gaming the System at Hakaniemi Metro Station which was organised by These Animals. These Animals is a collective of four artists; Pii Anttila, Anastasia Artemeva, Alan Bulfin and Steve Maher, with roots in Limerick who are currently based in Helsinki. The project ran from 17 to 27 September and was supported by Culture Ireland

Unveiling of Winter War Memorial

On 7 September Ambassador Ó Floinn together with the British Ambassador H.E. Sarah Price, unveiled a monument “to the memory of those British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens who volunteered to serve in the Finnish Army during the Winter War of 1940”.

Ireland’s New Ambassador Presents Credentials to Finnish President

Eve Parnell studied painting at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, leading to a BA degree in fine art in 2002. She has exhibited in London, Dublin, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Berlin, Burgwedel and Rome.
