Plaque to commemorate Irish members of the French resistance

On Monday 6 October, the Embassy in coordination with the Centre Culturel Irlandais organised a ceremony to mark the unveiling if a plaque to Irish members of the French Resistance. The plaque, which has been mounted in the courtyard of the Centre, represents the first major commemoration of the fifty Irish men and women active in the Resistance struggle. It was unveiled by family members of the Irish Resistance figures. Ambassador Byrne Nason addressed the gathering, which included descendents, representatives of the French parliament, senior officials, members of the press and representatives of the French World War II commemorative associations. The event was also addressed by the Maynooth University academic and organiser of the plaque, Dr David Murphy.
