Ambassador of Ireland to India, Feilim McLaughlin

Welcome to the Embassy of Ireland!

Ireland has had an embassy in Delhi since 1964 but our relationship with India goes back much further. From the early 19th century onward, Irish people founded and taught in many of India’s finest schools. There was also strong links between our independence movements and between writers and artists in our two countries during the 19th and 20th century.

In the 21st century the relationship between India and Ireland retains its focus on education, with more Indian students choosing Ireland for their third level and post-graduate education than ever before, and growing academic collaboration between our colleges and universities. While in the past these relationships were dominated by the humanities, in the 21st century science and technology prevail, bringing together academia, applied research and business to the benefit of both countries.

Science and technology are also central to business links between India and Ireland and trade between our two countries is booming. More and more Indian companies are doing business in and with Ireland and availing of benefits of using Ireland as a base to access the European market. At the same time, Irish investment in India is at an all-time high, with more and more Irish companies seeking to expand into India or to collaborate with Indian companies. The range of sectors in which we work together is diverse – everything from horseracing to pharmaceuticals, to financial services and dairy technology.

Tourism links are also flourishing, not least due to Ireland’s liberalisation of the visa regime for Indian citizens. It is now easier than ever for Indian visitors to come to Ireland to see our magnificent scenery and sample out legendary hospitality. Record numbers of Indians are doing so and at the same time India is attracting the interest of Irish travellers looking for an exciting, beautiful and culturally diverse holiday destination.

All-in-all the relationship between Ireland and India is stronger than ever and we look forward to it strengthening further in the years to come.
Why don’t you join us?
With my very best wishes

Feilim McLaughlin
