Emigrant Support Programme grant to the Irish Society in Uganda

The Embassy of Ireland in Uganda is delighted to present an Emigrant Support Programme grant to the Irish Society in Uganda.

The Irish Government’s Emigrant Support Programme is focused on supporting cultural, community and heritage projects that foster a vibrant sense of Irish community and identity. In particular, the programme supports organisations that deliver frontline advisory services and community care to Irish emigrants, particularly to the more vulnerable and marginalised members of our community abroad.

Over the past 53 years the Irish Society has been a vibrant, evolving and visible society in Uganda. Over this time the Irish Society has organised a diverse range of social events, raising much needed funds which support charities across Uganda. On behalf of the Irish Government, the Embassy of Ireland in Uganda is very pleased to present this grant to the Irish Society, and to further enable its work in support of the Irish Diaspora who have given so much to their adoptive home. The project will set up and administer a welfare fund for senior Irish citizens in Uganda.

Through this grant of 10.5 million UGX (€2,650) the Irish Society in Uganda anticipates that it will continue to bring the Irish Diaspora together, particularly senior citizens.
