Congratulations Devenish Nutrition

Embassy of Ireland to Uganda congratulates Devenish Nutrition on it’s nomination for an Investor of Year Award as part of Uganda investment Week

Embassy Kampala is delighted to announce that Devenish Nutrition has been nominated for an Investors Award at the 2016 Investor of the Year Award Gala. The awards ceremony will take place today Friday 24 June, the final day of Uganda Investment Week which is organised by the Ugandan Investment Authority. Devenish Nutrition is the only European company who has been nominated for an award.

Devenish Nutrition Ltd, has set up a model pig farm and feed mill in Hoima District, western Uganda. Devenish provides cutting-edge nutritional solutions for the intensive livestock sector to 30 countries worldwide. Based in Northern Ireland, Devenish Nutrition received support from Irish Aid and Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine through the African Agri-Food Development Fund (AADF) for the pilot phase of their investment in Uganda. The objective of the AADF is to develop partnerships between the Irish Agri-Food Sector and African countries to support sustainable growth of the local food industry, build markets for local produce and support mutual trade between Ireland and Africa.

Devenish’s hybrid development-commercial project in Hoima consists of two main elements. The first element is a model pig farm where top breeds of pigs (Large White, Land Race and Durocs) will be raised to maturity. The best pigs will be selected and brought to maturity before being made available to progressive pig farmers who wish to invest in the quality breeds for their farms. The second element of the project is an animal feed mill that will produce specialised pig feeds for each stage of the pig’s growth. These feeds will be produced by mixing mainly locally sourced raw materials and Devenish’s high-quality premixes. Devenish’s pig feeds will provide immense value addition to the Ugandan pig farmer’s business.

Speaking in advance of the awards ceremony Ambassador Dónal Cronin said: ‘it is great to see Devenish Nutrition getting the recognition it deserves for it’s investment here in Uganda. The Irish Government is proud to be associated with this project since it’s inception. Devenish Nutrition set up operations here in Uganda with a view to developing new markets for their product. Their long term investment outlook is be applauded and translates into real opportunities for the local community in Hoima.  We look forward to the expansion of their business throughout Uganda and into neighbouring countries. This investment is an example of the type of investment that the Embassy here in Uganda together with our regional Embassies in East Africa; Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania are working to facilitate and would like to see more of. ‘
