Minister Martin sends best wishes to the Asian Gaelic Games23/9/10
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Micheál Martin, T.D, has welcomed the opening of the Asian Gaelic games in Hong Kong.
The 15th annual Asian Gaelic Games will be held in Hong Kong on 25 & 26 September.
Welcoming the start of the Games, the Minister said:
“I am delighted to send my best wishes to the Irish Community in Asia as they gather in Hong Kong for the 15th annual Asian Gaelic Games this weekend. From speaking with Christy Cooney, Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael, who has travelled out to Hong Kong for the occasion, I know that the event has grown into a massive logistical undertaking and I compliment the Hong Kong GAA Club and the Asian County Board for their efforts.
“It is an extraordinary achievement by any standard that the weekend’s football and hurling competitions for men and women will see over 650 players, from twenty different countries battling it out at the landmark Hong Kong Football Club. The weekend serves as a special opportunity to showcase all that is best about Ireland’s sporting culture and I wish all of the players well in their endeavours.
“The weekend has also evolved to include a strong business element and tomorrow the 4th annual Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum (APIBF), hosted by the Hong Kong Ireland Chamber of Commerce will bring together nearly 200 representatives of the Irish business groups in Asia-Pacific and the Gulf regions. The APIBF will focus on practical ways in which Irish professionals in Asia can work with each other and with Irish companies looking to develop markets in the dynamic region. This sort of networking and sharing of expertise is critical for Irish business as they look to build markets in the diverse and growing Asian and Gulf regions.”
