Diplomatic Relations, European Union, Press Releases, Europe, 2011

The Minister for European Affairs, Dick Roche T.D. will travel to Paris on Wednesday, 2 February 2011 to address the French Parliament.

Minister Roche has been invited to engage with French parliamentarians on a range of current issues on the EU agenda as well as to respond to a report prepared by French Senator Jean-Francois Humbert entitled, “The Financial and Banking Crisis in Ireland”, following on a visit he paid to Ireland in December 2010.

Minister Roche will address a joint session of the Foreign Affairs Committee and European Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly on Wednesday morning. He will take questions afterwards from the parliamentarians and discuss issues raised.

In the afternoon, Minister Roche will meet with the European Affairs Committee of the French Senate. This meeting will have a particular focus on Senator Humbert’s report on the Financial and Banking Crisis in Ireland.

Minister Roche commented that “this visit to Paris is an important opportunity for a first hand exchange with French parliamentarians on a number of topical issues currently on the European agenda”. The Minister went on to say that “these meetings will allow me to outline the current economic situation in Ireland, the route mapped out for return to economic growth, and how actions at the EU and national levels interact.”
