Minister Creighton attends ASEM Conference in Budapest07 June 2011
Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton T.D. today addressed European and Asian Foreign Ministers gathered in Budapest, Hungary to attend the 10th ASEM Foreign Ministers meeting.
Over the course of the two day meeting, Ministers discussed a wide-range of global and regional issues including global economic and financial governance, sustainable development and international political and security issues.
In her formal intervention to the meeting, the Minister of State highlighted Ireland’s perspective on addressing non-traditional security threats such as food security, disaster prevention, human rights and human security.
The ASEM meeting taking place yesterday and today brought together Foreign Ministers of 46 European and Asian countries; together representing half of the world’s GDP, two thirds of the world’s population and almost two thirds of global trade.
Minister Creighton welcomed the opportunity which the occasion provided to meet formally and informally with a range of Asian Ministers, many of whom constitute Ireland’s leading export growth markets in the dynamic region.
