Communicating Europe Initiative – Applications invited for funding

The Department of Foreign Affairs is committed to building public understanding and knowledge about Ireland’s EU membership.  As part of this, the Department administers the Communicating Europe Initiative (CEI).

The Department of Foreign Affairs has launched its 2011 call for applications for funding from voluntary organisations, education bodies and civil society groups for projects aimed at deepening public awareness of the role that the European Union plays in our daily lives.

Activities funded in the past have included Europe Day events on 9 May, school initiatives, educational projects and seminars, as well as community-based, business-led and national civil society projects.

The closing date for applications will be Wednesday, 13 April 2011. Further details and an application form are now available on the Applications for Funding webpage of the Department of Foreign Affairs website at

Note to Editors:

The Communicating Europe Initiative (CEI) was established in 1995 to raise awareness about the European Union and to improve the quality and accessibility of public information on European Union issues.  The Department of Foreign Affairs administers the CEI and up to €150,000 will be available in 2011.  In 2010, 47 projects received support.
