Minister of State Jan O’Sullivan visits Belfast

The Minister of State for Trade and Development, Ms Jan O’Sullivan T.D, is visiting Belfast today to meet with the Assembly All-Party Group on International Development, the UK Minister of State for International Development, Mr. Alan Duncan M.P. and Mr. Hugo Swire M.P. Minister of State for Northern Ireland. 

The Ministers will discuss the current crisis in the Horn of Africa and international efforts to make aid more effective.

Minister O’Sullivan will attend a meeting of the Northern Ireland Assembly All Party Group on International Development (APGID) to discuss development issues and explore possible future cooperation.  The meeting will be chaired by Mr. Conall McDevitt M.L.A., assisted by the Vice Chair of APGID, Mr. Jim Wells M.L.A.. Minister O’Sullivan said:

“I look forward to meeting our colleagues in the Assembly, Minister Duncan, and Minister of State Swire, to discuss shared priorities in international development and the opportunities for cooperation in the future."

“I also look forward to hearing from Conall McDevitt who recently visited Uganda. He will brief me on potential areas for cooperation there, which is one of Irish Aid’s priority countries.  I will also be sharing my recent experience in Malawi and Mozambique and updating them on our Review of the White Paper."

The APGID session will also be attended by representatives from the Coalition of Aid and Development Agencies in Northern Ireland (CADA), whose members include Trócaire, Concern Worldwide, Oxfam and Amnesty International among others.
