Tánaiste to meet William Hague in London7/6/12
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore T.D., will travel to London later today for a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague. The Tánaiste will also attend a number of functions organised by Enterprise Ireland and will avail of the opportunity to meet with new London-based members of the global Irish Network.
Speaking in advance of his visit the Tánaiste said:
"British-Irish relations have never been stronger and my talks with William Hague will focus on how we can maximise the benefits - economically and politically - under the framework provided by the Joint Statement agreed by the Taoiseach and the British Prime Minister David Cameron in London in March.
We will also discuss EU developments, including restoring stability to the Eurozone and the priorities for Ireland's Presidency of the EU in the first half of next year, as well as UN and European action on Syria ahead of the forthcoming meeting of EU Foreign Ministers.
Separate to my talks with the Foreign Secretary, I will also host a number of events organised by Enterprise Ireland, with the support of our Embassy in London, for Irish and British companies involved in the financing and provision of green and renewable energy. Investment in this sector in the UK and Ireland is worth over €2.5 billion and it offers huge potential for Irish companies who are developing innovative technologies and strategies for the Green-Economy - a central plank of this Government's strategy for economic and financial recovery."
