New Ambassadors Present Credentials

Their Excellencies, the Ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Germany, the United States of America and the Republic of Colombia presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

H.E. Mr. Matthias Höpfner, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, was accompanied by his wife, Christina, and by Mr. Wolfram von Heynitz, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission.

H.E. Mr. Kevin F. O’Malley, Ambassador of the United States of America, was accompanied by his wife, Dena, and by Mr. Stuart A. Dwyer, Deputy Chief of Mission.

H.E. Mr. Néstor Osorio, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia, was accompanied by his wife, Paola, and by Mr. Juan Manuel Uribe, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission.

Mr. Charles Flanagan, T.D., Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, represented the Government at the ceremony.

The following were also present: Mr. Art O’Leary, Secretary-General to the President; Mr. Michael Gaffey, Director-General, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Ms. Orla O’Hanrahan, Chief of Protocol, Ms. Síle Maguire and Mr. Joe Brennan, Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Ambassadors were escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Cathal Daly. A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 1st Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade, Collins Barracks, Cork, under the command of Lieutenant Diarmuid Barry.

Captain Fergal Carroll conducted the Army No. 1 Band.
