Minister Sherlock welcomes further transit flights through Dublin Airport by Ethiopian Airlines

The Minister of State for Development, Trade Promotion and North-South Co-operation, Mr Seán Sherlock TD, has welcomed the announcement that Ethiopian Airlines flights from Addis Ababa to Washington DC and from Addis Ababa to Toronto will transit Dublin Airport (rather than Rome) from 10 May. These transits will be in addition to the new Addis Ababa-Dublin-Los Angeles (and return) route which will begin in mid-June.

Welcoming the news, Minister Sherlock said:

“The Irish Government is committed to strengthening and broadening our engagement and partnership with Africa and our Embassies there are mandated to promote all aspects of our relations. These new routes have been facilitated by the bilateral air transport agreement which I signed in November in Addis Ababa, a major African air hub, and I am confident that, together with the new Addis Ababa-Dublin-Los Angeles route, they will support tourism, trade, investment and connectivity.

“The arrival of Ethiopian Airlines also confirms Ireland’s own status as a competitive aviation hub reaching out to the world. During my visit to Addis Ababa last month I visited the excellent cargo facilities there to highlight the opportunities now available for Irish exporters wishing to take advantage of Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network of destinations in Africa, Asia and now the US West Coast.”
