Minister Deenihan launches new business network for returning emigrants

Irish abroad, MoS Jimmy Deenihan, Press Releases, Great Britain, Ireland, North America, 2015

Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan, TD this evening launched Irish Network-Dublin (IN-Dublin), a new Irish business network for returning emigrants.

The network will facilitate members to develop relationships which support growth and innovation in their business, economic, cultural and sporting ventures. Through mentoring programmes, networking, cultural and social events, IN-Dublin will provide a forum for returning emigrants, particularly those coming home from the United States. The membership will include those with expertise of doing business in the US and with US companies and investors.

Speaking the launch, Minister Deenihan said:

“Through the Government’s Emigrant Support Programme, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade supports Irish business networks overseas to facilitate the success of Irish people at home and abroad. IN-Dublin will support people who were part of those networks and are now returning home to take up opportunities here.

“Returning emigrants often note that settling back is not as straightforward as expected. I am optimistic that having access to network like IN-Dublin, many of whose members have experience of life in the US and other places overseas, will be of benefit.”

Minister Deenihan will be joined at the launch by Mr Stuart Dwyer, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, Dublin.

The recently launched diaspora policy Global Irish contains a number of actions which recognise the need to support those emigrants wishing to return to Ireland, while the Department’s new Global Irish Hub website, www.dfa.ie/global-irish/, contains a dedicated section with advice and information for those thinking of returning home.
