Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Announces Passport Express Service Arrangements Due to Industrial Action Affecting An Post

Cases of Genuine Emergency Will Continue To Be Prioritised

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has announced the following temporary Passport Express service arrangements in light of the industrial action currently underway at An Post:

  • The Passport Express service via post offices throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland has been suspended due to the industrial action affecting An Post.
  • Customers who do not yet have definite travel plans should postpone submitting their applications for passports while postal services remain suspended.
  • For those travelling within ten working days or less, the on-line appointments system for the Dublin and Cork Passport Offices will continue to operate as normal via the www.dfa.ie  website.  Proof of travel will continue to be required.
  • For those travelling in more than ten working days, application drop-off boxes will be in operation at reception in the Dublin and Cork Passport Offices and at the Irish Aid Office in Limerick from Monday morning, 5th October, onwards.   We do not expect that the disruption of postal services will have an impact on application turnaround times.
  • Cases of genuine emergency will be prioritised as always.
  • Passports will be available for collection through the Passport Offices in Dublin and Cork. We will be contacting customers who have already submitted their applications via Passport Express to arrange which location they wish to collect from. Likewise, any customers submitting their application during the dispute will be contacted to confirm their collection point.

The Department remains fully committed to providing the best possible services to passport applicants. We regret the inconvenience caused to customers as a result of the suspension of postal services and will keep our services under continual review in the coming days.  Further updates will be available via the Department’s website - www.dfa.ie.
