Minister Ciarán Cannon meets with
Ms. Alice Albright, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education

The Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciaran Cannon TD, today met with Ms. Alice Albright, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education, the only global fund solely dedicated to education in developing countries.

Speaking in advance of his meeting with Ms. Albright, Minister Cannon said:

“Ireland’s partnership with the Global Partnership for Education Fund underpins my Department’s broader work in the field of Global Education. We know that education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth and increases income. It improves a person's chances of having a healthy life, reduces maternal deaths and gives people the tools to combat diseases such as HIV and AIDS. It is one of the most important investments we can make.”

Ireland is proud to have been a founding member of the Global Partnership for Education Fund and remains committed to working together to ’Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning,’ one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals agreed in New York last year.

To date, Ireland’s contribution to the Global Partnership for Education of over €60 million highlights our commitment to addressing the need for quality education and building strong and resilient education systems in developing countries.
