Tánaiste welcomes Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Portugal to Dublin

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney T.D., hosted a working lunch today in honour of the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Portugal, Mr. Augusto Santos Silva.

Highlighting the strong and positive relations between Ireland and Portugal, the Tánaiste said:

“I am delighted to welcome Minister Santos Silva to Ireland, and to have the chance to discuss a number of issues, including Brexit, recent developments in the Middle East and the EU’s relations with Africa.

“Portugal and Ireland are both European countries with large diaspora communities, who share a strong commitment to our respective futures in the European Union.

“I look forward to working more closely together with Minister Santos Silva, including on a number of other EU issues which we had the chance to discuss today, such as EMU reform, migration, and the upcoming MFF negotiations.”

The Tánaiste also thanked Minister Santos Silva for Portugal’s support for Ireland’s concerns in the ongoing Brexit negotiations.

Minister Santos Silva’s programme includes a keynote speech at the IIEA entitled “The Future of Europe: a perspective from Portugal”.
