Meeting between Minister Ciarán Cannon TD and Greek Minister Terens-Nikolaos Quick

Meeting between Minister Ciarán Cannon TD and Greek Minister Terens-Nikolaos Quick

Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciarán Cannon TD, met with Minister Terens-Nikolaos Quick, Alternate Greek Minister for Foreign Affairs with responsibility for the Greek Diaspora, on 23 March 2018.

During the meeting, the two Ministers discussed bilateral relations between Ireland and Greece, with a special focus on the Irish and Greek Diasporas. The Irish community in Greece numbers almost 1,000, and the Greek community in Ireland is of a similar size. The meeting provided an opportunity for both Ministers to exchange ideas on engagement with their respective Diasporas. ‘Global Irish: Ireland’s Diaspora Policy’ sets out a vision for nurturing diverse global Irish communities that are connected both to Ireland and to each other.

Minister Quick also called on President Higgins and the Lord Mayor of Dublin. The Greek Minister’s visit was a follow-up to the successful Irish State Visit to Greece in February, at which President Higgins was received at the highest level, and is part of a number of initiatives designed to enhance cultural, political and economic ties between the two countries.
