Tánaiste welcomes the outcome of latest Inter-Korean Summit

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Simon Coveney T.D., has welcomed the outcome of the latest Inter-Korean Summit, which took place in Pyongyang on 18-20 September.

“The Summit meeting which took place between the leaders of the Republic of Korea and the DPRK this week marks a further step towards resolving the challenging situation on the Korean Peninsula. We in Ireland know the significance of sustained dialogue in building trust, which is an essential element on the road to lasting peace and stability. I welcome this recent diplomatic engagement and hope that the momentum generated can lead to further positive steps in this direction.

The Summit declaration contains important commitments across a range of critical issues, including economic cooperation, military, social and cultural engagement and denuclearisation. I look forward to seeing the implementation of these measures, as well as further steps which will contribute to the wellbeing and prosperity of all of the people on the Korean peninsula, and towards complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation.”
