Min Coveney welcomes appointment of next Secretary General of the OECD

15 March 2021Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney TD has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Mathias Cormann as the next Secretary General of the OECD.
“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Mr. Mathias Cormann on his appointment as the next Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. I wish him well as he takes on this important role from 1 June 2021. Mr. Cormann’s appointment is a testament to his strong campaign and to the impressive skillset he brings to the role from his time as Minister for Finance of Australia. Ireland looks forward to working with Mr. Cormann’s as he takes up his new responsibilities.
"The OECD is a central organisation in the multilateral and global network of economic cooperation and governance at a time when multilateral co-operation faces many challenges, including supporting a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Ireland will do everything it can to support Mr. Cormann in leading the OECD to address the challenges we all face.
"I also wish to pay warm tribute to Ms. Cecilia Malmström and her campaign, which so enriched the selection process. I wish her the very best in her future endeavours.
