Data Sharing Agreement between Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Social Protection

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has entered into a Data Sharing Agreement under the Data Sharing and Governance Act 2019 with the Department for Social Protection for the purpose of seeking assistance in identifying the next of kin of a person who is deceased or seriously injured overseas where the next of kin is not immediately known.

This Data Sharing Agreement covers sharing of Personal Data, in limited circumstances, by the DFA with the General Register Office so that it may provide some personal data it holds on close relatives of the deceased or seriously injured person. The information is then combined with the data held by the DFA in order to identify the individual’s next of kin.
