St Patrick’s Day Card Competition 2021

 

In celebration of St Patrick’s Day 2021, Ireland’s National Day, the Consulate General of Ireland would like to invite all primary school and secondary school students to design an Irish themed card cover. The winning designs will be used as the Consulate General of Ireland’s St Patrick’s Day 2021 greeting card covers.

 

1.    Theme

The theme covers anything related to Ireland; be it St Patrick, Gaelic football, hurling, Irish dancing and music or forty shades of green! Please provide a short paragraph on the attached application form to explain your design (50 – 70 words)

 

2.    Eligibility

The Card Cover Design competition is open to all primary school and secondary school students in Hong Kong and Macao.

 

Each student can submit one entry only in one of below categories:

  • Category 1: Primary 1-6/ Grade 1-6
  • Category 2: Secondary 1-6/ Grade 7-12

 

Each original artwork must be:

  • in colour, free of copyright restrictions and previously unpublished.
  • presented on a white background in a landscape orientation and A4 size (8.27" x 11.69")
  • created using either a traditional or digital format:

 

  • Traditional: using crayon, colouring pencils, felt tip pen, watercolor, oil paint etc.
  • Digital: with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher

 

  •  in 2D format only (i.e.: no “stick on” or glitter materials should be used)

 

3.    Judging

The judging panel will consist of representatives of the Consulate General of Ireland, Special Guest Irish judges and sponsors. Points will be awarded as follows; 90% for the artwork, under the headings theme, design and creativity and 10% of marks will be conferred for the description.

 

4.    Awards

The designs that the Jury selects as first place winners will be used as the official St Patrick’s Day 2021 greeting cards (Printed and electronic) of the Consulate General of Ireland. The winning designs will also be exhibited at the Consulate General of Ireland.

 

  • Category 1: Primary 1-6/ Grade 1-6

 

The Winning design of the Primary category will win vouchers worth up to HK$750, with prizes also for second and third place.

 

  • Category 2: Secondary 1-6/ Grade 7-12

 

The Winning design of the Secondary Category will win vouchers worth up to HK$1000, with prizes also for second and third place.

 

5.    Submission

Each original entry must be submitted with a completed application form (St Patrick Day Card Competition application form) as a separate attachment. Please email your scanned artwork (traditional and digital should all be sent electronically) and application form by 17:30 on 11 February 2021, to hongkong@dfa.ie.  Please title your email “St Patrick’s Day Cover Design Contest 2021”. Image resolution should ideally be 300 dpi or higher but file size should not exceed 8MB.

 

6.    Rules and Conditions

  • Entries will be declared invalid if they are late, illegible, incomplete, irregular, forged or reproduced.
  • In instances where artworks were made by traditional methods instead of digitally, the artist of the winning design may be asked to post/deliver their winning entry to the Consulate General of Ireland.
  • Do not include your personal information (e.g: full name, school name, age, etc.) in your design.
  • Entries will be declared invalid if any third party trademarks, brands and/or logos such as sports team logos, businesses, restaurants or coffee chains, etc. are used or displayed in any part of the submitted artwork, obviously or subliminally.
  • Entries will be declared invalid if they negatively depict another person, nation, country, ethnicity, race, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
  • Entries will be declared invalid if they contain content deemed offensive or inappropriate including but not limited to nudity, vulgarity or violence.
  • While contestants retain the copyright to their submitted artworks, by entering the Card Cover Design Contest, they grant the Consulate General of Ireland the rights to modify, reproduce, publish, distribute, exhibit and use the entries in any and all media or distribution methods.
  • All personal information provided by contestants will only be used by the Consulate General of Ireland for the purpose of administering the St Patrick’s Day Card Cover Design Contest 2021.
  • Prizes will be distributed to the winners and participants by 31 March 2021.
  • Prizes are subject to the prize suppliers' terms and conditions.
  • The Consulate General of Ireland reserves the right to exclude from its Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page any post that does not comply with these rules and regulations or for any reason that the Consulate General of Ireland or its partners determines in its sole discretion without notice at any time.
  • The Consulate General of Ireland reserves the right to change the contest rules, prizes and other arrangements without prior notice. In the case of any dispute, the Consulate General of Ireland reserves the right of final decision.
