The Addis Ababa annual women-only run, ‘Choice Women First’ 5km Run

The 12th edition of the annual 5km women-only run took place in Addis Ababa today. Irish Aid Ethiopia is among the sponsors of this important event, which dates back to 2004 and was originally set up as a way to celebrate the achievements of Ethiopia’s great female athletes, to recognise the role of women in the economic and social life of the country and to support positive changes in such role. The popular music band Yegna, several distinguished Ethiopian athletes and artists, and over 10,000 runners came together to support this year’s event under the motto “empower women, empower a nation”.
