Study in Ireland

Ireland has a worldwide reputation for high-quality education and welcomes students from China and around the world.

Education and research is a vital part of Ireland’s knowledge-based economy, and our reputation and record attracts students and researchers from around the world.

With strong investment in education by the Irish Government over many decades, Ireland’s Universities are all ranked in the top 5% globally, and we have the highest rate of participation in higher education in Europe.

Our Universities and Colleges offer over 5,000 world-leading programmes, across all disciplines, and recognised internationally, including in China.

Ireland has a world-class research sector, with Irish universities in the top 1% of research institutions in the world in terms of research impact in 19 fields, including national sciences, social sciences and humanities. Irish institutions are ranked 1st globally in Nanosciences; 2nd in Computer Science; 2nd in Immunology and 3rd in Animal and Dairy.

The top global ICT, online and pharmaceutical firms have chosen to invest in Ireland as their strategic base in Europe and they partner with Irish Universities and institutes on leading research and innovation.

Ireland has a stayback visa scheme where graduates from Irish universities and colleges to get a one-year working visa after to start their career. Together with dynamic and export-oriented Irish companies, the top global firms based in Ireland offer exciting opportunities for graduates of Irish institutions.

As the only English-speaking country in the Eurozone, study in Ireland is an accessible and appealing choice for international students, in a safe and friendly environment and with a rich culture and easy connections to the rest of Europe and the world.

Over 35,000 international students from 161 countries now choose to study with Irish institutions, including some 5,000 students from China. Chinese students are now the second largest cohort of non-EU students in Ireland.

There are a range of scholarship options for study in Ireland, offered by the Irish and Chinese governments and by Universities and Colleges in Ireland.

Cooperation and exchange in Education and Research is one of the important areas of the Strategic Partnership agreed between the Irish and Chinese governments, and supporting these links is a key task for the Embassy and Consulates General of Ireland in China.
