An opportunity is available to work at the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney. The position is offered initially on a fixed-term basis of one year, and may be reviewed thereafter. The position is full-time working five days per week from Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hour requirements.

 

Role description:

The Consulate represents Ireland’s interests in New South Wales. The successful applicant will undertake a varied role that includes providing executive support to the Consul General, supporting visits from Irish Ministers and officials, contributing to organising Consulate events, and providing administrative support to the mission on consular, financial and other matters.

This is a public-facing role that requires regular interaction with Consulate stakeholders. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide high-level executive and administrative support to the Head of Mission including coordinating agendas, office communications, representational events and protocol arrangements;
  • Manage the Consulate procurement function, ensuring the Mission gets best value for money when making reservations/bookings;
  • Manage the Consulate’s records management and archive functions;
  • Manage maintenance of the Consulate premises;
  • Provide additional ad hoc administrative support to the Deputy Consul General when required;
  • Back-up support for passport and consular services (including Duty Officer).

Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

-          Fluency in English (native speaker level) is essential;

-          Background as an Executive Assistant - 12 months minimum;

-          Excellent communication skills;

-          Ability to organise time, work independently, coordinate and prioritise multiple tasks to ensure that deadlines are met;

-          Well-developed networking and interpersonal skills, including a flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;

-          Strong computer skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications

-          The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Australia prior to recruitment.

The initial contract term is for one year with the option of extending this depending on performance and workload. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia and be able to complete an initial contract duration of 1 year. The Consulate is not in a position to sponsor a visa application.

 

Remuneration:

The annual remuneration for the post is AUD$58,290.05 p.a. based on a five-day week, with annual incremental increases upon completion of a successful performance review. Salary is paid by electronic transfer, therefore a bank account is necessary. In addition to the salary, the Consulate will pay superannuation into a scheme of your choice.

 

Working hours:

-          Monday to Friday: 9am – 1pm / 2pm – 5pm

-          Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will work early morning and evening events and provide occasional weekend cover. Time in lieu is granted.

Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment.
