With its origins in the tradition of oral storytelling in Ireland, the short story has a distinctive place in the modern Irish literary tradition. Yeats and Frank O’Connor employed the form to tell simple stories in a sophisticated way. Wednesday 26 November 2014 from 18:30 – 19:30 at Ultimo Library. Tickets are free through Eventbrite.

The city of Dublin has inspired centuries of music from sweet Molly Malone's wheel-barrow to Dublin in the Rare Ould Times. Join us for Dublin: A City of Stories, Poets & Song as you're treated to an evening of talk and musical performances as we explore this unique city. Stephen McLaren and Anne Fitzgerald assemble a team of performers and musicians to perform selected prose, poetry and music associated with the Dublin of James Joyce and other literary greats, including Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, WB Yeats, Samuel Beckett and Flann O’Brien. The themes extend from city life to the scholarly, mystic and comedic traditions of Ireland. Thursday 27 November 2014 from 18:30 – 19:30 at Customs House Library. Tickets are free through Eventbrite.
