The Consulate was delighted to support the Sydney Queer Irish float in the 2016 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Over 140 people took part in the float, which took its inspiration from Ireland's original Pirate Queen, Grace O'Malley, with guest of honour Panti Bliss at the helm.

The Mardi Gras Parade, which took place on 5 March through the streets of Sydney, is in its 38th year. The Sydney Queer Irish float, which was one of the biggest in this year's parade, was also supported by Tourism Ireland.
