Easter 1916 and Cultures of Anti-Imperialism Symposium

Easter 1916 and Cultures of Anti-Imperialism Symposium

University of New South Wales
Sydney

June 2016

The Consulate General of Ireland in Sydney is delighted to partner with the University of New South Wales to bring together leading academics from around the world to discuss the international legacies of the Easter Rising with a focus on cultures of anti-imperialism.

The symposium will address transnational cultural and literary dimensions to the Rising from a variety of disciplinary and theoretical perspectives. One strand of the symposium will investigate the impact of the Rising in India, another British colony on a long road to independence. The symposium will be open beyond academics and students to the interested general public. UNSW will host a public screening of the documentary on 1916 being prepared by the University of Notre Dame to be followed by a panel discussion.
