Roger Casement Seminar and Exhibition, Brasilia

The Roger Casement Seminar and Exhibition will be one of the major 2016 commemorative events outside of Ireland and countries of our traditional diaspora. Roger Casement was British Consul in Belem, Santos and Consul General in Rio de Janeiro. His pioneering humanitarian work exposed atrocities in the rubber industry in the border area between Brazil and Peru.

The seminar will feature a keynote speech by a high profile cultural historian of the period. In addition, prominent Brazilian intellectuals will have a panel discussion on the legacy of his work as a humanitarian and further sessions will examine his impact on the struggle for the recognition of human rights. The associated exhibition will also chart his evolution from British Diplomat to Irish revolutionary and will be displayed for nearly two weeks.
