Award Winning Irish film to take part in the 13th European Film Festival

The award winning Irish film "Pavee Lackeen – The Traveller Girl" will participate in the 13th European Film Festival, taking place in May, June and July in various Brazilian cities. The film, directed by Perry Ogden, tells the story of Winnie, a resilient young woman from the Irish Traveller community, and her family, living in a trailer in the docklands area of Dublin. The film, winner of the 2005 Irish Film and Television Awards for Best Picture, depicts a marginalized community living in extreme poverty in a thriving Ireland.

The Festival is promoted by EUNIC Brazil – The Association of Cultural Institutes and the Embassies and Consulates of Member Countries of the European Union. This year it will focus on women in film. The festival theme is "Women in the Picture" and will highlight European female directors and/or films portraying women and gender equality issues. The aim is to promote a debate about the importance of women's visibility in the cinematographic world.

“Pavee Lackeen – The Traveller Girl” has also won important European awards, such as the 2005 London Film Festival's Satyajit Ray Award and the Human Rights Award of the International Independent Film Festival in Buenos Aires. The film will be featured in the cities of Brasilia, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Manaus and Belém respectively. The screenings of “Pavee Lackeen” are supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Arts Council, Culture Ireland and the Irish Film Institute. Premiado Filme Irlandês participa 13ª edição do Festival de Cinema Europeu

O premiado filme irlandês “Pavee Lackeen – A Cigana” participará da 13ª edição do Festival de Cinema Europeu, que acontece entre os meses de Maio, Junho e Julho em diversas cidades brasileiras. O longa, dirigido por Perry Ogden, conta a história de Winnie, uma resiliente jovem da comunidade viajante Irlandesa, e sua família, vivendo em um trailer em uma área portuária da capital Dublin. O filme ganhador do prêmio de melhor filme no Irish Film and Television Awards em 2005, retrata uma comunidade marginalizada, que vive em extrema pobreza em uma próspera Irlanda.

Nesta edição, o Festival que é promovido pela EUNIC Brasil - Associação dos Institutos Culturais e pelas Embaixadas e Consulados de Países Membros da União Europeia, terá como tema as mulheres no cinema. A mostra “Mulheres em Cena”, que prestigiará filmes europeus dirigidos por mulheres e/ou que possuam abordagem de questões femininas e de igualdade de gêneros, tem o objetivo de promover um debate acerca da importância da visibilidade feminina no mundo cinematográfico.

Pavee Lackeen – A Cigana, também foi ganhador de importantes prêmios europeus, como o Satyajit Ray Award do London Film Festival de 2005 e ainda o prêmio de Direitos Humanos do Festival Internacional de Cinema Independente de Buenos Aires. O filme será exibido nas cidades de Brasília, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Manaus e Belém respectivamente. A exibição de “Pavee Lackeen – A Cigana” recebeu apoio do Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, do Arts Council, Culture Ireland e do Irish Film Institute.
