"Ireland and Estonia have a lot in common. It is important that two small countries stick together" said Amb. Flood in his welcoming speech.

He was also glad that the centenary of 1916 Easter Rising is being celebrated in Kuressaare in addition to many other places including Ireland and the US. Ambassador thanked everyone who had made their contribution to the preparations of the Irish week.

During the opening ceremony, local student performed an Irish musical piece, pictographic poster exhibition "Irish Tales" by design students was opened, and a website depicting the events of the 1916 Easter Rising - www.irisheesti.ee - created by IT and design students was launched.

The week continued with the Irish conference where several members of the Irish community in Estonia talked on various subjects. Irish food was also presented in Kuressaare that week - Ambassador's wife, Mrs. Orla Ni Bhroithe gave a workshop on Irish cooking, and a visiting Irish chef Robert Hyde supervised the students who prepared a 4-course meal for Irish dinner at the school's restaurant.
