The Irish community in India is quite small and is scattered across the continent. The main community is based in Delhi/Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai.
We provide grants to Irish organisations around the world, focusing in particular on the most vulnerable of our emigrants.
The Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad recognises sustained, distinguished service to Ireland, its communities abroad or its international reputation by those living abroad.
Promoting Irish culture is an important part of the Embassy's work. We work with key organisations to enhance the opportunities to enjoy Irish culture, including music, poetry, theatre and film.
Saint Patrick’s Day is a global celebration of what it means to be Irish and the Embassy uses the opportunity every March to showcase Ireland at events across India.
Ireland remains a popular tourist location with 7.6 million overseas tourist visits in 2014.
