Messenger Position (part-time) - Embassy of Ireland to Italy

The Embassy of Ireland to Italy is seeking to recruit a person for the position of part-time Messenger

Role

The messenger will report directly to the Diplomatic Officer with responsibility for the administration of the Embassy. This position will cover a range of duties including some basic clerical work and some driving duties, including:

  • Delivering and collecting as required throughout Rome;
  • Organising the post and diplomatic bag;
  • Ordering and collecting stationary and other affects;
  • Filing and archiving;
  • Data entry work using Excel or Word;
  • General photocopying;
  • Cover for Embassy driver as required.

Profile

The ideal candidate must be trustworthy and have:

  • Access to a scooter for official use and easy access around the city (insurance and vouched petrol costs will be covered by the Embassy).
  • A full driver's licence for use in Italy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Italian and English
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel and Email;
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and to take forward pieces of work independently when required.

Duration

The contract is a fixed-term 6 month contract. It is a part-time position, 17.5 hours per week as agreed within core working hours of 09.15 to 17.30. However, there may be a necessity for the messenger to work hours outside of these normal working hours and time in Lieu will be given for any additional hours worked.

Applications should be submitted by email to the Head of Administration at Embassy of Ireland Rome to arrive by Friday 7 April 2017. A shortlist of candidates will be called for interview on the basis of the information supplied in their applications.

Interviews will take place during the week commencing 10th April 2017.
