How quickly can I get my passport?

All applications received by the Irish Embassy in Seoul are forwarded to the Passport Office, Ireland. The current standard processing time is approximately 6 weeks from the date we receive your application, provided the application has been submitted correctly.

We can only issue temporary (emergency) passports in the event of a genuine emergency situation (the death or serious illness of a family member) within one working day of submission of an application.

In all other circumstances, it can take up to five working days to process your temporary passport application in the Embassy. Valid proof of confirmed travel (e.g. airline ticket/email) or other documentary evidence to explain why the temporary passport is required must be presented.

Emergency passports are usually valid only for a 7 month period.

The fee depends on the type of service you are looking for as below;-

  • a temporary passport issued to a person aged 18 and over outside of the Embassy’s normal opening hours - KRW154,000
  • a temporary passport issued to a person aged 18 and over during the Embassy’s normal opening hours in 5 working days – KRW77,000
  • a temporary passport issued to a person aged under 18 outside of the Embassy’s normal opening hours – KRW77,000
  • a temporary passport issued to a person aged under 18 during the Embassy’s normal opening hours - KRW42,000
