Frankfurt Book Club

The Consulate General of Ireland would like to invite you to be a part of the Consulate General’s Book Club.

The Book Club will focus on contemporary Irish writing and follows in the footsteps of similar book clubs run successfully at Irish Embassies and Consulates General around the world. Indeed, the Book Club initiative was recently awarded the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s first-ever public diplomacy award.

In time, we hope to organise author-led readings, joint readings with other Embassies and Consulates General and other special Book Club-related events. The Book Club will focus primarily on contemporary Irish writing and we will of course be open to suggestions for books to read once we are up and running.

For the first Book Club event, we will be reading Joseph O’Connor’s Shadowplay – Novel of the Year at the 2019 An Post Irish Book Awards. Shadowplay is a biographical fiction novel featuring one of Ireland’s most famous authors – Bram Stoker of Dracula fame.
We hope to host a fairly relaxed discussion about the book at WeWork Taunusanlage 8 on Tuesday February 4th from 6-8pm.

You can order the book online through various retailers including Hugendubel, Amazon, Buecher.de or Book Depository. It also available as an e-book or Audiobook through any of the major marketplaces for those platforms.

If you’re interested in participating, please register on Eventbrite (there is no need to print the e-ticket).
