Irish Design 2015 Exhibition at Stilwerk

The exhibition ‘Connections’ by Irish Design as part of the Year of Irish Design 2015 is on display at Stilwerk, Vienna, for the remainder of December. The 3D capsule exhibition features work by various Irish designers engaging with the theme “life and culture”.

Vienna Hosts Pan-European GAA Finals

On Saturday Vienna played host to the Pan-European GAA finals. Over 450 enthusiastic players from across Europe converged on the Rudolf Tonn Stadion just outside the city to take part with Irish accents from all over the country mixing with German, French, Spanish and many more to give a true European feel to things.

Tale of the Gael - Performance to Mark Yeats 150

Tale of the Gael are recognised for their skilful weaving of entertainment, fine music and Irish context. They will present aspects of the poet’s life and work set into some of Ireland's most beautiful music in a performance that blends the essence of Yeats into the rich and varied musical landscape of the island.   

The performance in Graz will take place with the kind cooperation of the Folk History Museum.

Venue: Heimatsaal im Volkskundemuseum, Universalmuseum Joanneum, Paulustorgasse 13a, 8010 Graz. Time: 20.00

Irish Night at Vienna’s Radiokulturhaus

To celebrate an historic broadcast of James Joyce’s Ulysses on Radio Ö1, the Embassy of Ireland and ORF are collaborating to host an Irish Night at the Radio Café in Vienna’s famous Radiokulturhaus (Argentinierstraße 30a, 1040 Wien). The event will run from 21.00 to late in the Radio Café.  

Tale of the Gael - Performance to Mark Yeats 150

Ambassador Whelan Lays Wreath at Mauthausen Commemoration Ceremony

Ambassador Whelan attended the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen concentration camp and laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ireland at the memorial in the centre of the camp.

Irish Films Feature @ Ethnocineca Festival

Two Irish films will feature in this year's Ethnocineca Ethnographic and Documentary Filmfest at the Votivkino in Vienna.

The short film Analogue People in a Digital Age, directed by Keith Walsh and Jill Beardsworth, will be shown on Tuesday 5 May. Abasezi ("Nightdancers!), directed by Emile Dinneen, will be shown on Thursday 7 May.

This year’s Irish Ball will be held on Saturday 28 March in the beautiful InterContinental Hotel beside Stadtpark, where guests can expect a night filled with fine food, Irish drinks, and craic agus ceol. The Annual St Patrick’s Day Parade will take place in central Vienna on 14 March. . It will start at 11.00 and march from the Freyung, outside the Schottenstift, via Mölker Bastei to Schottengasse and back to the Freyung. This will be followed by a Post-Parade gathering at Freyung 4, with Irish music and dance.

“Invisible Violence” opens at the Salzburger Kunstverein

With support from Culture Ireland, the Salzburger Kunstverein is proud to present “Invisible Violence”, a multi-disciplinary project curated by Zoran Erić, Séamus Kealy and Blanca de la Torre. The project includes pieces by Irish artists Sarah Brown, Declan Clarke, Willie Doherty, Garret Phelan and Locky Morris and will be on display until 10 April 2015.
