Vacancy for EU Presidency Liaison and Administrative Officer at the Embassy of Ireland, Bulgaria

To cover the demands of Bulgaria’s Presidency of the European Council, the Embassy of Ireland in Sofia wishes to employ an EU Presidency Liaison and Administrative Officer for a fixed term contract from 2 January 2018 – 30 June 2018. The main purpose of this role will be to ensure that visits of delegations of ministers and officials coming to Bulgaria during the Presidency are facilitated by the Embassy in a professional manner. S/he will also be required to undertake other tasks relating to the Bulgarian Presidency, such as media monitoring of European issues.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with coordination of visits of Irish ministers and officials to Bulgaria
  • Liaising with EU Presidency desk officers in the Bulgarian Ministry for the EU Presidency and Irish Government ministries to ensure that all arrangements are in place for official visits
  • Making logistical arrangements
  • Providing administrative support to Embassy staff as required 
  • Monitoring and reporting on media coverage of the Presidency and Presidency events

Experience, qualifications and personal qualities required

  • A university degree
  • A keen interest in government and international relations
  • The highest standard of oral and written fluency in English and Bulgarian
  • Experience of administrative work, preferably in an international environment
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of using Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Flexibility and a willingness to undertake a range of different tasks and to work irregular hours as required
  • High degree of motivation, ability to take initiative and to work under pressure
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to liaise effectively with others
  • Responsible, reliable and well organised

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time local staff position at the Embassy of Ireland in Sofia for a fixed term of six months. A competitive salary will be offered. The annual leave entitlement will be in accordance with Bulgarian labour law and the Embassy also observes Bulgarian public holidays.  

Applicants must have existing authorisation to work in Bulgaria. The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance. Staff recruited locally by the Embassy of Ireland in Bulgaria are subject to terms and conditions of service according to Bulgarian employment law.
