Irish novelist Donal Ryan launched the Czech translation of his celebrated novel The Spinning Heart in Prague on 22 October. This is his second book published in Czech, after The Thing About December, which came out in June.

Be International Fest

The Embassy will again participate in the Be International Fest, the first international festival for Czech and foreign students in Prague. The Střelecký Island will host a unique project, introducing the city of Prague as a modern metropolis open to all cultures.

The 3rd international conference dedicated to the work of the Irish postmodernist writer Flann O'Brien will take place in Prague from 16 to 19 September 2015. Terezín Music Foundation – Liberation Concert

The Terezín Music Foundation organised a concert on 29 June in the Spanish Synagogue in Prague to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Terezín concentration camp, with the participation of the Boston Children’s Chorus and Mark Ludwig, Director of the Foundation. 

Bust of Václav Havel Unveiled at Dáíl Éireann (Irish Parliament)

The Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD unveiled a bust of former Czech President Václav Havel at Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament) in Dublin, Ireland. This is the first time the Irish Parliament has accepted a bust of a foreign head of state and it will be located on a plinth in the Committee Rooms' reception area at Government Buildings.

Several Irish artists are exhibiting Prague Quadrennial 2015 in the Countries and Regions section, based in Glam-Gallas Pallace, Husova 20, Prague.

Year of Irish Design Exhibition

The exhibition theme is ‘Connections’ and the featured elements tell the story of Irish design both at home and abroad. Ambassador Kelly will open the Exhibition in the atrium of the Embassy building on Thursday, 4 June at 18:00 with a short talk in English by award-winning illustrator Steve Simpson.

Prague Feis

30-31 May 2015

The 7th Annual Delaney Academy Prague Feis will be held from 30 to 31 May at Tyršův dům in the Lesser Quarter (Malá Strana) in Prague. The feis, which is run by the Rinceoirí Irish dance group, is an international competition open to all dancers from all regions.

Night of Literature

13 May 2015

The Night of Literature is an event organised by the Czech Centres in cooperation with EUNIC and Book World Festival in Prague. It aims at presentation of contemporary European literature in new translation into Czech to the broad public. The event, which will include a reading of The Master by Colm Tóibín, will take place on 13 May, on the eve of Book World Festival in over 20 venues in the Prague 6 Dejvice district. The venues are within walking distance and one reading (performed by a popular Czech actor/actress) takes about 30 mins. For further information visit the literature night website.

Book Launch – The Irish Franciscans in Prague

The Embassy, in cooperation with the Centre for Irish Studies, Charles University, organised launch of the book by Jan Pařez and Hedvika Kuchařová: The Irish Franciscans in Prague 1629 – 1786:History of the Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Prague.

European Days 2015

The Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic organises a series of events commemorating Schuman Day (9 May) so called ‘European Days.’ The main event celebrating the Europe Day will be an open-air festival held on 7 May on Střelecký ostrov in Prague.


Irish May Festival

1-3 May 2015

The Irish May festival will traditionally take place during the first weekend in May (1-3 May) in the Celetná Theatre in Prague (www.divadlovceletne.cz). The programme will comprise dance and theatre performances, a literary reading and a workshop. Special guest of the festival will be Irish dancer Colin Dunne, best known for his dancing performance and choreographic art in shows Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground.
