Assistant Policy Officer – DEADLINE: 17:00 on 31 January 2022

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The position will involve providing full political and administrative support to the Head of Political and EU Affairs Unit and administrative support to the Deputy Head of Mission. In addition, the job holder will be responsible for HR process management.

 

The work will include:

  • Research and analysis, incl. monitoring and reporting on developments in Germany
  • Report writing as required
  • Identification of contacts
  • Scheduling of meetings and travel arrangements
  • Translation and informal interpretation
  • Event and visit management
  • Attendance at meetings, conferences and seminars
  • HR process management, in particular with regards to legal questions and Embassy recruitment
  • General administrative support

Candidate Profile:

The position is to commence on 01 March 2022 and will be for one year fixed term contract. There may be a possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a proven capacity to multi-task in a busy and demanding environment. They will have a strong knowledge of German and EU politics and current government policy in the relevant areas. Knowledge in the area of HR is also desirable. They will work as part of a very busy and flexible Embassy team.  The position will also involve undertaking occasional out of hours duty for which training will be provided.

Essential requirements:

To be eligible the following qualifications and competences are required:

  • A third level qualification and work experience in a relevant area
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English. The candidate should be a native speaker of German or English and have a minimum C1 in the other language. In some cases applicants may be telephoned in advance to establish language proficiency.
  • Very good research and analytical skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • A high level of organisational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • The ability to work well under pressure while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
  • A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability
  • The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Germany prior to recruitment

Terms and conditions of employment:

Starting date:   01 March 2022
Contract duration: 1 year temporary fixed term contract
Contract extension may be possible
Working hours: Full-time (35 hours) with occasional attendance outside of hours
Out of hours duty service on four occasions during the year compensated by additional leave
Salary:  30,900.68 gross per year (incl. 13th month) with annual increments linked to satisfactory performance
Annual leave: 24 days in a year
Probationary period:  6 months

Security Clearance for Local Staff

Police vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful this information will be destroyed.
