Roles and Responsibilities
The Consular and Administrative Officer will work primarily in the Consular Office of the Embassy, which is responsible for providing consular services to Irish citizens and visa applicants, as well as contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the Chancery.
Primary responsibilities will include visa processing, consular assistance (passport queries, travel queries, more complex cases involving the welfare of citizens), and general administrative duties and office tasks.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a proven capacity to problem-solve and multi-task in a busy and demanding environment. They will work as part of a very busy and flexible Embassy team and will have significant opportunities to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in various areas of Embassy work. The position will also involve undertaking occasional out of hours duty (up to four times a year).
To be eligible the following qualifications and competences are required:
- A post-secondary qualification in a relevant area and/or work experience in a relevant area.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both German and English. The candidate should have a near-native level of either German or English, and a minimum of C1 in the other language.
In some cases, applicants may be telephoned to establish language proficiency prior to interview. - Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent administrative and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to work well under pressure while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Germany prior to recruitment.
Desirable:
- A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability.

Working hours: | Full-time (35 hours/week) with occasional out-of-hours attendance. Out-of-hours duty service on up to four occasions during the year, compensated with additional leave. |
Salary: | 30,900 Euro gross per annum |
Annual leave: | 24 days per annum |
Probation period: | 6 months |
Security Clearance
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again.
